Canopy Shyness (Stidljivost Drveća)
Live animation, dance, text and music are combined in this 40 minutes long multimedia performance, created at Cultural Center New Zagreb, Croatia, in 2021. It is also the continuation of Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović’s and Michaela Müller’s collaboration in creating scenic work.
Canopy Shyness brings together four artists from different, yet close fields of activity, with a desire to meet in “no one’s and everyone’s space in between”, contributing motives such as fear of the other, the need to protect oneself, and the inability to do so, roots and wandering, empathy and respect.

The poetic monologue written by Dubravko Mihanović Šimičić is broken in the narrative, and kaleidoscopic in the images that appear and disappear. Melting into the float of a dream; they are carried by the voice of Filip Šovagović, with touches of his original music performed on acoustic guitar, offering the dancer Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović a rhythmic structure interspersed with silences. Her dance is a response which in return stimulates text, music and image. It inspires Michaela Müller’s animations, which are being created live during the performance, and projected on the walls. Using simple objects, the animation creates amazing, dreamy scenes in constant motion, combining all segments into one performance piece.
